The long drying grass has now been harvested in some of the fields by a local farmer ready for winter feed (other fields we are deliberately leaving uncut). The Red Kites are delighted as they follow the tractor around picking up bits of poor critter that couldn’t escape the blades. It’s been fascinating watching the clever Crows and Rooks observing the Kites and homing in on their landing spots. The Kite’s in turn have been teasing me all week with regular close fly-bys as soon as I’ve given up and put my camera down. I will catch a good picture of them one of these days! Meanwhile, the smell of freshly cut and bound hay will linger long in the memory.
